Giles is an experienced, creative, and versatile composer. His passion for sound design and flair for improvisation combined with his skill in crafting orchestral scores from intimate to epic contributes to his success as a distinctive composer. Giles demonstrates his diversity with his scores for a wide range of projects from animation, feature films, factual TV, and AA games cinematics and commercials along with a slew of neo-classical and electronic solo albums. Notable amongst his successes are the RTS Scotland 2022 Award winning Hushabye Lullabye and Bafta Winning and BAA nominated animation series for Sky Kids, The Brilliant World of Tom Gates. The iconic score to Valhalla Rising by Nicholas Winding Refn, major documentaries and drama such as Holy Hell (CNN), Slow Trains through Africa with Griff Rhys Jones (ITV), Taggart ITV.
His composing talents are aptly demonstrated by his award-winning score for the Dead Island announcement trailer, regarded as one of the best game cinematics ever made, and his majestic work with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on the ongoing Visit Scotland campaign. Further recent credits include Frankie Boyles Tour of Scotland, and a variety of Factual TV, network commercials, and VR/site-specific media.
Giles was born in England and moved to Scotland to study Neuroscience and music psychology where he became established as a composer and band member, initially working in Theatre before co-founding the sound and music company, Savalas, in Glasgow and a founding member of the Glasgow Improvers orchestra. His background has lent to his unique perspective of music, a holistic approach to the soundtrack, and the power of music with the moving image. As a solo artist, he has released 9 neo-classical albums with many millions of streams of his work on various networks
